Talk Abstract: Microalgae biotechnologies tap into the huge energy resource of the sun and absorb CO2 and are being developed to provide economic solar-driven solutions including the production of energy, food and clean water. Microalgae technology also opens up a suite of high value opportunities in the nutraceutical and pharmaceutical sectors. Efficient photosynthetic biomass production in high rate ponds and photobioreactors represents the first step of the manufacturing process and requires a systematic optimization approach. We have developed high-throughput screening methods to improve the understanding and control of critical process parameters, build product quality in pilot scale outdoor production systems and assist techno-economic process modeling to fast-track next-generation microalgae systems development.
